Days Gone By

I never really wanted to carry this amount of stuff all at once back in the 80’s/90’s but I sure do remember having all these things around me. Having a smart phone replaces all this stuff, but it makes me wonder if we use our phones as tools to their greatest potential. Or, since it’s so small, we forget that we have these capabilities.

Allman Farm Near Sunrise

I pass an old, abandoned farm on a regular basis. Yesterday I opted to stop and take a few pictures.

I initially wanted to Instagram them but instead opted to leave them natural. This is the first time I took a set of pictures using just my iPhone 5. I hope you enjoy them.

I find it pretty easy to relate to many of the cartoons from Cat vs. Human.

This might not make sense to those unfamiliar with The Big Bang Theory.

American Nomads Documentary

I was poking around a site I recently discovered called New Escapologist and happened upon this blog post which brought to my attention a BBC documentary called American Nomads. A British journalist –Richard Grant– interviews several types of nomads here in the U.S. Among them are retirees in RVs, teens hopping trains, hitchhikers and rodeo cowboys. It’s quite the interesting 90 minutes and I recommend that you take some time to watch and enjoy it.

My First Podcast Appearance

I’m pleased to have been a guest on Robert Wall’s Untitled Minimalism podcast. Robert and I spent time talking about a number of things but I like how he summed up our conversation:

For most, collections are invitations to clutter. Today we’re talking with Craig about his personal journey toward a minimalist life, and his experience with collecting things – both before and after his transition to minimalism.

I invite you to listen to episode #6 of the Untitled Minimalism Podcast.

Caught My Eye | July 20, 2012

Here’s the 3rd installment in my weekly series highlighting various things in the news or on the web that have captured my attention:

7-Eleven Mashed Potato Vending Machine | While not yet available in the United States, the lucky folks in Asia are currently able to enjoy hot mashed potatoes and gravy dispensed from a Slurpee-like machine. Yum? Hmm. Maybe not.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Trailer with Pee Wee Herman Voices | Pee Wee was a guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last week and overdubbed the trailer for the new Batman movie. It’s an amusing take on things.

TV Star Doesn’t Own a TV or Cell Phone | Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa apparently doesn’t feel a television or cell phone are necessary in his life. Nice to see someone in Hollywood swimming against the current once in a while.

Caught My Eye | July 13, 2012

Here are the things that caught my eye this week, maybe they’ll be of interest to you too.

A Man and His Volvo Drive Almost 3 Million Miles | Irvin Gordon has driven his 1966 Volvo P1800S more than 2 million miles, the equivalent of about 100 times around the globe. He has no plans to stop driving it after he reaches the 3 million mile mark, which he’s swiftly closing in on with around 34,000 miles remaining.

NFL Teams Use iPads as Playbooks | Several NFL teams are ditching the giant 3 ring binders full of paper depicting plays in favor of sleek and slim iPads that can hold mounds worth of paper as well as delivering video of past games. It’s just the beginning of what’s in the pipeline for the melding of technology and game prep.

Big Mac Recipe | I haven’t had a Big Mac in years, but it’s nice to know that should I want to create one at home I can follow the steps provided by this McDonald’s Canada Executive Chef. His version looks pretty tasty actually.

Team USA Olympic Uniforms Made in China | ABC News did some checking and found that the uniforms to be worn by Team USA during the Olympic opening ceremony were produced in China. A top American fashion designer states there’s no reason Ralph Lauren couldn’t have made the clothing in the United States, at a cheaper price even!

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee | Jerry Seinfeld is about to launch a web show called, well, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, just like I titled it. This show intrigues me greatly as it involves several things I really enjoy: interview conversations between stars, coffee and cars. Here’s a promo for the show. The first episode will be posted next Thursday, July 19th, at 9pm on the show’s website as well as crackle.com.
